"simple_summary": "Though David’s line seems cut down, the LORD will raise up a Spirit-filled ruler from Jesse. He will judge with justice, defend the poor, bring peace, gather the remnant, and draw the nations toward the LORD’s rule.",
"simple_explanation": "Isaiah speaks of new life from an apparently ruined family line. Jesse’s house looks like a stump, but the LORD will bring forth a shoot. This ruler will rest on the Spirit of the LORD. He will have wisdom, counsel, power, and fear of the LORD. He will delight in obeying the LORD.\n\nHis rule will be righteous. He will not judge by outward appearance or hearsay. He will defend the poor and decide rightly for the meek. His word will bring judgment on the wicked. Justice and faithfulness will mark everything he does.\n\nThe prophet then uses strong pictures of peace. Wolves, lambs, leopards, goats, calves, lions, cows, bears, and snakes are shown in harmony. This is poetic language for full peace and the end of harm on the LORD’s holy mountain. The land will be filled with the knowledge of the LORD.\n\nThe vision then widens. The root from Jesse will stand as a banner for the nations. People from many places will look to him. The LORD will gather his scattered people from the lands of exile. He will heal the division between Ephraim and Judah. He will make a highway for the remnant, like the old exodus from Egypt. This points to the LORD’s faithful power to restore his people and to bring the nations into the sphere of his saving rule.",

"gods_plan_connection": "This passage continues the promise to David and the story of judgment and restoration. The stump shows covenant discipline, but the shoot shows that the LORD has not abandoned his promise. The king’s reign brings peace, gathers the remnant, heals division, and points forward to the Messiah and the final peace of God’s kingdom.",
"simple_application": "Do not measure hope by what looks dead or reduced. Trust the LORD to keep his promises. Value leaders who show justice, integrity, and reverence for God. Reject corrupt judgment and tribal hostility. Read the peace and gathering promises with care, as prophetic hope centered on the LORD’s chosen king.",
