God the Father is the first person of the Trinity, eternally God and fully equal in deity with the Son and the Holy Spirit, while personally distinct from them. The Bible presents the Father as the one who sends the Son into the world, who works by the Spirit, and who receives the prayers and worship of his people together with the Son and the Spirit as the one true God. His fatherhood is first and foremost revealed in his eternal relation to the Son, not merely as a metaphor for care or authority. Scripture also teaches that those who are united to Christ are adopted as God’s children and may rightly call him Father. Care should be taken to speak of the Father in a fully Trinitarian way, avoiding any suggestion that he alone is God while the Son and Spirit are less than fully divine.
