Description

In biblical usage, a miracle is an extraordinary act of God by which he displays his power in a way that serves his revealed purposes. Scripture treats miracles as real events within history, not simply as religious interpretations of natural occurrences. Miracles may bring healing, deliverance, provision, judgment, or authentication of a divine messenger, but they are never ends in themselves; they point to God’s authority, compassion, holiness, and saving plan. The miracles of Jesus especially reveal the arrival of God’s kingdom and confirm his identity and mission. Christians may distinguish between God’s ordinary providence and his extraordinary works, but both are under his sovereign rule.
