Elymas

Thayer's Greek Lexicon

Ἐλύμας, (Buttmann, 20 (18)), Elymas, an appellative name which Luke interprets as μάγος — derived either, as is commonly supposed, from the Arabic (elymon), i. e. wise; or, according to the more probable opinion of Delitzsch (Zeitschrift f. d. Luth. Theol. 1877, p. 7), from the Aramaic àÀìÄéîÈà powerful: Act 13:8. (BB. DD., under the word.)
