Ιεζαβελ ((so G T WH, L Ιεζαβελ; Tr Ιεζαβελ; Rec. Ἰεζάβηλ), ἡ (àÄ鿯áÆì (`perhaps intact, chaste; cf. Agnes’ (Gesenius))), Jezebel (modern: Isabel), wife of Ahab (circa ; 1Ki 16:29), an impious and cruel queen, who protected idolatry and persecuted the prophets (1Ki 16:31 — 2Ki 9:30); in Rev 2:20 equivalent to a second Jezebel, the symbolic name of a woman who pretended to be a prophetess, and who, addicted to antinomianism, claimed for Christians the liberty of eating things sacrificed to idols, Rev 2:20.
