Ἀβιά, indeclinable proper name (Josephus, Antiquities 7, 10, 3; 8, 10, 1 ὁ Ἀβίας (Winer’s grammar, § 6, 1 m.), ), àÂáÄéÈä and àÂáÄéÈäåÌ (my father is Jehovah), Abia (or Abijah, cf. B. D. under the word),
1. a king of Judah, son of Rehoboam: Mat 1:7 (1Ki 14:31; 1Ki 15:1).
2. a priest, the head of a sacerdotal family, from whom, when David divided the priests into twenty-four classes (1Ch 24:10), the class Abia, the eighth in order, took its name: Luk 1:5.
