θυρεός, θυρεοῦ, ὁ (from θύρα, because shaped like a door (cf. Winers Grammar, 23)), a shield (Latinscutum); it was large, oblong, and four-cornered: τόν θυρεόν τῆς πίστεως, equivalent to τήν πίστιν ὡς θυρεόν, Eph 6:16.
