κατέναντι, adverb; not found in secular authors (Winers Grammar, 102 (97)); in the Sept. mostly for ðÆâÆã, ìÀðÆâÆã, ìÄôÀðÅé (see ἔναντι and ἀπέναντι); properly, over against, opposite, before: followed by the genitive (Buttmann, 319 (273); cf. Winer’s Grammar, § 54,6), Mar 11:2; Mar 12:41 (Tr text WH marginal reading ἀπέναντι); Mar 13:3, and L T Tr WIt in Mat 21:2; L Tr WH text also in Mat 27:24; ἡ κατέναντι κώμη, the village opposite, Luk 19:30. Metaphorically, with the genitive of person, belove one i. e. he being judge (see ἐνώπιον (especially 2 e. and 1 c.)): τοῦ Θεοῦ, Rom 4:17 (which, by a kind of attraction somewhat rare, is to be resolved κατέναντι Θεοῦ, ᾧ ἐπίστευσε, who is the father of us all according to the judgment and appointment of God, whom he believed, the words καθώς ... τέθεικά forming a parenthesis; cf.
