ἀμνός, (οῦ, (from Sophocles and Aristophanes down), a lamb: Act 8:32; 1Pe 1:19; τοῦ θεοῦ, consecrated to God, Joh 1:29; Joh 1:36. In these passages Christ is likened to a sacrificial lamb on account of his death, innocently and patiently endured, to expiate sin. See ἀρνίον.
