1. intransitive, to be insolent; to behave insolently, wantonly, outrageously.
2. transitive, to act insolently and shamefully toward one (so even Homer), to treat shamefully (cf. Winer’s Grammar, § 32, 1 b. β.): Mat 22:6; Luk 18:32; Act 14:5; (1Th 2:2); of one who injures another by speaking evil of him, Luk 11:45. (Compare: ἐνυβρίζω.)
